Ray Luzier was raised in West Newton, Pennsylvania, a small town an hour outside of Pittsburgh. He began to play drums at the age of five. Playing along with many records, Ray was basically self-taught. He played in high school marching, concert & jazz bands & had a local rock band during his teenage years.

After moving to Hollywood, CA, he graduated in 1989 with a degree from Musicians Institute’s PIT. Luzier got got hired there a couple years later & taught rock drumming classes, live playing workshops and private lessons (1992–2001), around touring & doing sessions in Los Angeles.

Ray is best known for his work with the multi-Grammy winning, 46 million records selling band KOЯN, which he joined in 2007. Before that, he recorded & toured with David Lee Roth (’97 – ’05), Jake E. Lee, Billy Sheehan, The Nixons, Arcade, Hideous Sun Demons, Army of Anyone, various Perfect World Entertainment bands (Metal Shop-now Steel Panther, Boogie Knights, Spazmatics) and Stone Temple Pilots. Ray released an instructional DVD based on his teaching years at MI.  Most recently, he has performed & has recorded with KXM (feat. George Lynch & Dug Pinnick), Jonathan Davis’ solo band, Mick Mars, Jeff Beck, Phil Colllin, Mark Morton, Motive Black, Dauzat St. Marie, Phil X, Phil Campbell & many others.

When KOЯN were looking for a new drummer, Luzier reportedly flew to Seattle to audition on then fill in drummer, Joey Jordison’s last day. When told to learn only five of their songs, Ray learned over thirty. Not only did he nail their studio versions of each song, but the live versions as well. After such an impressive audition, the band didn’t think twice. On his first tour with them in ‘08, they performed sold out shows in 36 countries.  The rest is history in the making!
