Ye Huang

Ye Huang is a clarinetist, saxophonist, composer, and music director whose work bridges classical tradition and contemporary innovation.

Born in China, Huang began studying clarinet at the age of nine and moved to New York two years later. He trained at Juilliard Pre-College with Alan Kay and studied jazz saxophone with Ron Blake, later earning his degree from the New England Conservatory under the mentorship of Jerry Bergonzi, Miguel Zenón, Donny McCaslin, and Jason Moran. He has also been a longtime student of Eddie Daniels, Wynton Marsalis, and Tan Dun.

Huang currently serves as the Musical Director and educator at Jazz at Lincoln Center Shanghai, as well as Arts Ambassador for The Forum for World Education and founder of Music Bund, an organization dedicated to cultural exchange through music.

From 2016 to 2025, he has toured internationally with legendary artists including Arturo Sandoval, Eddie Daniels, Wynton Marsalis, Mike Stern, Steve Smith, and Dave Weckl, while maintaining an ongoing collaboration with Tan Dun since 2021.

As a recording artist, Huang’s albums — Starlight, Unlock, Podium, and Jazz Clarinet Minuet — fuse classical, jazz, Latin, hip-hop, and rock influences into a singular voice. In 2022, he premiered his 55-minute clarinet concerto Vanward and composed the original score for the musical Jazzing. His performances have been featured at major international festivals and covered by Forbes, WBGO, DownBeat, and leading Chinese media outlets.
