Being a staff audio engineer at sE Electronics has some solid perks. The best part is meeting our wildly diverse family of sE Artists. From members of Hans Zimmer’s orchestra to Billie Eilish, the musicians and engineers using our products cover the entire musical spectrum.
On my recent trip to Greece, I was invited to Grindhouse Studios in Athens. It’s an inspiring space overlooking the Acropolis, and the place to be if you’re recording heavy guitars. George Bokos is the owner, primary engineer, and an sE Artist. Famous for his role in the black metal band Rotting Christ, George’s focus is now on tracking, mixing, and mastering music.
His talent is undeniable. We spent the evening listening to music on this visually striking set of studio monitors. George and a business partner have been custom designing these reference systems for recording studios. We scrolled through moments in both of our audio work, from our first successful mixes to most recent projects. I really admired the “in focus” sound of George’s tracking and mixing. Nothing was blurry or indistinct. Even on heavy songs sporting a wall of distorted electric guitars, there was nothing gumming up the works. Clarity from top to bottom.
We talked about sE products, and how they help us both get the sounds we’re looking for, without relying on processing. In addition to guitars, George gets some epic drum sounds at Grindhouse. Check out this video!
