Can I store my drums with the V CLAMP still attached?
If your drum cases are large enough, you can leave the black bracket attached when you put your drums away, saving valuable setup and teardown time. Just remove the mic (still attached to the metal standoff) from the bracket and store it separately (in a V CASE, for example) – then when it’s showtime, you can just slide it right back into the V CLAMP and you’re ready to go.
Are there different bracket grooves for differently-sized drums?
The black bracket of the V CLAMP has three separate grooves in its upper jaw. Depending on the height of the rim of your particular drums, you may find that one groove allows for a better fit than the other two. Feel free to experiment!
Use a cable tie for extra safety or organization.
The hole in the silver-colored stem of the V CLAMP allows you to insert a cable tie wrap. If you are using the V CLAMP upside down (for example, for a snare bottom mic) it’s a good idea to do this – that way, even if the knob hasn’t been properly locked, if the mic starts to fall it’ll be stopped by the cable tie wrap and won’t fall on the floor.
The hole also allows you to tie down your mic cables – especially useful for organizing cables in very large drum kits.
How should I store my microphone?
We generally recommend keeping your microphone in its case or original packaging when it is not in use for more than a few hours. If your studio is very clean and safe, it could be OK to leave out on its mic stand when not in use, but if a mic is out of its case, it could potentially be exposed to dust, smoke, moisture, or humidity – which can damage the sensitive parts of the mic – so we recommend avoiding those things at all cost.
How do I clean the microphone from spillage and dirt?
If your microphone has come in contact with dirt or another removable substance, we recommend cleaning it with a very soft, slightly damp cotton cloth. Do not open the microphone up to clean the inside, and make sure you NEVER touch the capsule itself. Cleaning a capsule should only be done by highly trained professionals in a “clean room” environment. My guitar amplifier / drum / horn is VERY loud, and I am concerned about the risk of damage due to loud noise.
For the most part, sE mics can tolerate extremely high SPLs (typically over 135dB) and will be fine in front of even the loudest sources – yes, even our ribbon mics. If in doubt, you can check the specifications on the individual product page.
